ELEANOR REISSA · WRITER
Eleanor writes plays, musicals and operas - in both English and Yiddish. She is currently working on a commission from the Gotham Chamber Opera in New York City to write the libretto in Yiddish and the supertitles in English for an opera based on Isaac Bashevis Singer’s short story, TAIBELE AND HER DEMON, with composer, Judd Greenstein. Her first play, THE LAST SURVIVOR about a daughter and her relationship with her father – a holocaust survivor – received its premier at Chicago’s Northlight Theatre. Israel’s national Yiddish theatre, Yiddishpiel, commissioned her to adapt the movie YIDL MITN FIDL into a Broadway-style musical, which she also directed. She loves writing in both English and Yiddish, both plays and musicals. She also writes cabaret acts, poetry and emails.
